Roosevelt Island Tram Will Be Closed for Six Months - March 1

Rendering of new Roosevelt Island Tram due this September.

As of tomorrow, March 1, 2010, service is suspended on the Roosevelt Island Aerial Tramway.

Expect this to last six months as extensive upgrades and modernization take place on the almost 34 year old tram.

Almost every part of the tram system will be replaced.

Originally it was built as a temporary solution to the delayed building of a subway to the island and has since become at fixture along the East Side of Manhattan and the East River.

NY: Ice and Glass Falls on Partygoers at Sony Building

Last night(Saturday, Feb. 28) ice came crashing through the glass atrium of the Sony building at 550 Madison Ave., showering party guests with glass and ice in the lobby area.

10 people were hurt and had to be taken to the hospital, although their injuries were not serious.

Snooki from MTV reality show, "Jersey Shore" was said to be at the Purim party and tweeted about the incident. Chris Noth who plays the "Big" character on Sex in the City was present.

San Diego Chargers Looking at Running Backs at NFL Combine

The San Diego Chargers are looking to shore up their running game by looking for a few good backs at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Norv Turner has spoken to a few backs, but the first was Jonathan Dwyer of Georgia Tech.

Don't forget Darren Sproles is about to become free agent so at this point, there is no running game. His output has been average when you look at the numbers and they may consider it when the combine is over.

Knowing Norv Turner, he's looking for a simple down hill runner who can get behind a big offensive line and move the ball(just as he did in Dallas with Emmitt Smith).

San Diego is going younger.

REWIND: D'Angelo - Send It On (Live)

D'Angelo and the Soultronics live.

He kills the falsetto on this song. None of that weak, extra breathy stuff you hear a lot of right now(excluding Maxell, dude is just as good with his). I look forward to him releasing some of the songs he's been recording of and on the past few years.

D'Angelo was able to take the falsetto Prince used on "Adore" and create a style of soul music that even Prince would not go on to make. Prince continued to move away from using his falsetto as much after "Adore", although he came close on a few later songs.

Anthony Hamilton is on the right doing background vocals.

"The Hurt Locker" Producer Apologizes for E-mails

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science is considering action against producer Nicolas Chartier(one of 4 nominated producers for "The Hurt Locker"), who sent out multiple e-mails urging academy members to vote for his movie in the best-picture category and "not the $500 million film," an obvious reference to close competitor Avatar.

The initial e-mail was sent on Feb.19.

Walt "Clyde" Frazier: Former NY Knick in Paradise

Walt "Clyde" Frazier is a professional basketball Hall of Famer and World Champion, he has a legendary sneaker named after him(Puma Clyde), that played a major role in the development of HipHop culture, he is an author and television broadcaster for the NBA New York Knicks.

His reputation for being cool in his demeanor and dress are known the world over. He is referenced in the majority of Spike Lee films either directly or indirectly(Denzel Washington's character in "Inside Man" had Frazier as his last name and was a Walt Frazier fan).

So when a New York City nightlife veteran like Clyde says he spends lots of his time on an island, you'd think Manhattan. We'd be wrong(myself included).

The island of choice for him is St. Croix. There he develops land and tends to his landscaping(trees in particular).

Cameron Douglas Denied House Arrest

Cameron Douglas, son of actor Michael Douglas, will have to remain in jail instead of being placed under house arrest. He is charged with selling crystal meth and cocaine.

The judge said Douglas could not be trusted because his girlfriend tried to sneak him some heroin in an electric toothbrush in the past.

Despite testimony from his lawyer and psychiatrist, the judge still wanted him to remain in jail until his April sentencing.

LA: GAP 1969 Store on Robertson Back For Good

The new Gap 1969 Concept Store opened in Los Angeles at 109 S. Robertson yesterday. It's being said the store is back by popular demand(They're not lying! The response to the opening of that Robertson store in the summer was off the chain!).

The store has the Baby Gap 1969 Collection in addition to the adult Gap 1969 jeans and jackets.

Also there is a denim wall in the back that houses 1000 pairs of jeans and you are allowed to look for your size.

The store has a Polaroid camera on hand to take pictures of the more fly or famous patrons which they put on the "Robertson Love Wall" and have signed like a guestbook. Now that's some L.A. sh%t right there... in a good way.

U.S. Passport Price May Increase Soon

If you need to get your passport renewed or have to apply for one, you might want to do it as soon as possible.

The U.S. State Department is proposing a raise in the price to apply for or renew a passport. The goal is to charge more to cover their fees... Right!

The price will increase by $35 if this proposed rule is adopted.

While a club in LA is nothing new, one at the newest hotels in Hollywood, run by one of the more successful nightlife talents is. There will be no shortage of parties and hip places to chill this summer. What Drai and company have on their side is the excitement generated around this state of the art hotel and one of the best views in a historic, gentrifying neighborhood. A Nautical Contemporary Overlooking Hermosa Beach

This nautical contemporary was inspired by east coast lifeguard houses and appropriately overlooks Hermosa Beach. If you've been coming to this blog regularly, you know it's time that we feature some aesthetically pleasing and design forward homes.

This one stood out because of its indoor/outdoor living layout and the attention paid to natural colored materials used. The earth tones work to add color in what could be an otherwise white box. Softening up the area makes it hip and chic.

Some may argue that it appears empty, but, beach living is a little different... you want that space.

History of Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life" Parts 1 & 2

The documentary of Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life".

These are from Swedish SVT. It traces the series of events that lead to the making of "Hard Knock Life" and effect the record had on the lives of those involved after its recording.

For the record, DJ Mark "The 45 King"(New Jersey legend and Hip Hop production genius) made the beat after hearing the song in a television commercial announcing the return of "Annie" to Broadway. He later found the record, chopped it and laced the beat.

He and Kid Capri had talked about putting it on Kid's album. While DJing, Jay-Z overheard the song and wanted it for his album. Kid Capri got 45 King on the phone and the initial contact had been made. What happened next was the transformation of Jay-Z from rap star to entertainment celebrity.
