L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa's Mural Splattered With Paint By Angry Citizen
Saturday, September 26, 2009
Villaraigosa's mural after - notice the "This Is Our Town" graffiti on the sidewalk - dude in the photo has that 'what the f%ck?" look.
Last Friday, L.A. Weekly photographer Ted Soqui was driving along Santa Monica Boulevard and happened upon Susy's Meat Market in East Hollywood. He saw a new mural of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa painted on the building, so he snapped a shot of it, left posted it at his site(TedSoqui.blogspot.com) and kept it moving.
Two days later, Ted drove by Susy's to see someone had splattered paint on the face of the mayor's mural and painted on the sidewalk, "This Is Our Town".
"That what's happenin' in the streets?!!" Whoever did that had good aim.
Check out photos from the painting of the mural...
UPDATE: On Sept. 25 the mural was defaced again...(although the collar has been painted over in white, the red paint and the "This Is Our Town" are still there.)

The implication is that Villaraigosa is a "sellout", says Ted Soqui.
(The fact that the exclamation point was used in the beginning of the word and upside down shows the person knew how to write in Spanish...muy bien!)
This isn't a good look for the mayor... it gets worse by the day.

regardless of what people think of the mayors political views they should still respect the art,..props to RABBI & RETNA,
REKALone, your right. All I could think of when I saw what they did was, "how could they deface the painting because of their dislike for the mayor?". It shows you how strong people's feelings are, that they attack symbols in place of people. Ironically, the defacing is giving the mural press that it never would have gotten. Millions from around the world are talking about the mural and the artists. Too bad they had to disrespect the art and the artists. Thanks for coming through. Martin
