Roosevelt Island Tram Will Be Closed for Six Months - March 1

As of tomorrow, March 1, 2010, service is suspended on the Roosevelt Island Aerial Tramway.
Expect this to last six months as extensive upgrades and modernization take place on the almost 34 year old tram.
Almost every part of the tram system will be replaced.
Originally it was built as a temporary solution to the delayed building of a subway to the island and has since become at fixture along the East Side of Manhattan and the East River.
