In 2011, Los Angeles lost television shoots because of more competition from New York, but feature film production slowly increased.
Film production increased due to their state's tax credit program, according to FilmL.A., Inc.
Filmmakers can receive tax credit up to 25% of production in certain areas.
Some of the feature films approved for the program last year included "Gangster Squad", "Argo", and "This is 40".
Commercials shot on location increased from the year before, setting a new annual record for the region.
