Fat Beats Pop-Up Shop in Brooklyn - Sat. March 5th - 12PM to 8PM

Fat Beats will open, what is hopefully, the first of many monthly Pop-Up record stores this weekend in Brooklyn, NY(110 Bridge Street - DUMBO section).

Being one of the first blogs to notice and talk about the pop-up store trend, I'm glad to post that one of my favorite record spots(that I thought was gone forever) is opening one... at there warehouse.

If you don't know about Fat Beats, it was one of the few places that reminded you of a "real" record store they played music live, they were fully stocked, the walls were plastered with stickers, covers or flyers from the minute you hit the stairs to go up to the second floor.

It wasn't uncommon to bump into one of your favorite rappers or producers. The hall was so tight, it forced you to make eye contact and speak to everyone, which created a sense of community once you got upstairs or went back to the street.

I still remember copping a lot of vinyl and CDs there - Slum Village, OC, Big L, Little Brother, Sadat X. The only thing I hated was dudes trying to sell there records outside on the street, but, I bought a few that I liked anyway.

What I loved was it was centrally located making it easy to run there and get back to any recording studio you were working out of. Rock and Soul is cool... but Fat Beats was cooler.

Word.
