Former LA Laker Lamar Odom - Photo: Zimbo
On Saturday, the LA Lakers traded forward Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks' for the first-round draft pick in 2012.
Odom was upset that he was part of the voided Chris Paul trade and didn't practice the first two days of training camp.
This wasn't the trade everyone anticipated!

Saturday, August 20, 2011 Former NBA player Xavier Mc Daniel and his sixteen-year-old daughter Xylina have more than a love for basketball in common, they are both recognized for being quite good at it.
Xylina is a top women's basketball recruit from South Carolina and that may be because her dad coaches her traveling team.

Friday, August 19, 2011 A basketball game where two lefts, a right and another left make it right.
While the basketball game may have been held to encourage goodwill between the U.S. and China, with approximately nine minutes left in the game, "The Brawl for It All" became a more appropriate title for the event.
It's difficult to see exactly how the melee began, but it's more obvious to see how it ended - with rights, lefts, chairs and plastic bottles being thrown.
At one point(check the :20 mark), a Chinese player can be seen punching a Georgetown player repeatedly while he was on the floor.

The #1 draft pick - Kyrie Irving.
Duke University's Point Guard Kyrie Irving was chosen in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday in Newark, New Jersey.
New Jersey native Tristan Thompson went 4th overall, to the Cavs.

Monday, May 16, 2011 D-Wade showed no fear attempting to block the shot, the problem was Gibson knew he was going to elevate over him.
Watching the play develop in real-time, it was easy to see that 3-on-1 fast break was going to lead to some points.

People's Games' NY and LA teams at Venice Beach. Photo: Jay L. ClendeninLos Angeles has a new amateur basketball league, The People's Games and it aims to give every baller the chance to shine.
It's and amateur league, but you have to try out, athletes don't get paid, but you do receive coaching and tips from the likes of Earl "The Pearl" Monroe and Lucius Allen.
This is organized, "organized basketball".
Later for pitting local teams against each other, this is about state rivalries. Great idea!
Millions have been spent developing the prototype, which hopes to spread to 14 other cities and thousands more are spent in donations and hiring staff.

Tuesday, April 5, 2011 I always like watching any vintage footage from the ABA. I was looking for some video on David Thompson, but wasn't satisfied with either the quality or the short length of the clips.
I remembered he was in this particular dunking contest and figured this would show the ABA and David Thompson at their best.
In case you didn't know David "Skywalker" Thompson was the player who inspired Michael Jordan and he presented Jordan into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

UCONN defeated Butler 53-41 in a low scoring, poorly played game to win their third title.
Butler lead early, but, UCONN hung around enough to assert themselves in the second half and pull ahead.

Shaka Smart has agreed to sign an 8-year-deal and stay at the school, opting out of the North Carolina State coaching position he was thought to be considering.
The Virginia Commonwealth University men's basketball coach shot to prominence when he took his team to the Final Four after being criticized as not belonging in the tournament altogether.
His deal is rumored to be worth $1.6 mil, but, that's pure speculation. It'd also be a bad deal. It'd be right down up there with Magic Johnson's 25-year, $25 million contract. The deal made sense when it was struck, but by the end of the decade, he was clearly being underpaid for what he was delivering.
8 years is a long time, but, renegotiate is a long word too!
Hopefully that $1.6M an annual number.

Monday, April 4, 2011 Meant to post this over the weekend.
I like this profile because it actually focuses on his parents and his early life, before UCONN.
Of course everyone says positive things about him, but it's the way they say them that makes it a really good "feel good" piece.
UCONN will meet Butler tonight for the NCAA Div. I Men's Basketball Championship.

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 I came across these videos online. They were directed by Rik Cordero and they're related to a basketball tournament involving the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Rik did a good job of shooting the the Bronx and Brooklyn and he got Spike Lee to do a voice over, that's all I know.
I'm guessing they were commissioned by Game Seven Marketing.

Monday, March 14, 2011

The 2011 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament begins tomorrow with more teams than before.
Now the "First Four"(Get it? As in, the Final Four) will be the "First Round" and consist of 8 teams trying to get into 4 available spots to compete against, Ohio State, WVU, Pitt and Georgetown.
The fact that these are low seeds playing against top seeds means anything can happen if a first round team has a good streak.
The old "First Round" is now the "Second Round".
Click above photo to get an updated bracket of teams that have moved on.
Click this link for printable bracket.
Games will be played in the following world famous cities - Anaheim, New Orleans, San Antonio and Newark(LOL!).
For the first time all games will be televised on TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV.
