Dimitri from Paris presents "Get Down With The Philly Sound" - Philly Sound Documentary
Sunday, June 6, 2010 One of the best contemporary documentaries done on the musicianship behind the Philadelphia International Records sound coming out of Sigma Sound Studios in Philly.
Although the film was done in support of Dimitri from Paris' Get Down With The Philly Sound album, it represents the music well with great analysis of why the music came together well and transcended the Black music scene - going international(that fact that Dimitri From Paris is releasing this album is testifies to that).
Having met and spoken with Kenny Gamble(cool dude), written and produced music in the town, and spent a great deal of time in and around the city of Philadelphia, a film like this means that much more to me.

When it comes to quality, BBE never fronts. This is the same label that brought us the Jay Dilla solo albums "Welcome to Detroit" and "The Shining".
The latest records I've been hearing from them continue in the same tradition. This Julien Dyne project is one of the better produced and arranged projects in its genre at this time.
Solid beats, melodic chords and it make excellent use of the various instruments employed, creating textures and warm soul.
