Monster Cable really got in at the right time on this ear plug venture. Initially they went with the headphones which were cool, but, these earplugs have the streets buzzin.

Skull Candy is making a lot of noise as well and have Snoop Dogg endorsing... and it looks like Jay-Z is coming aboard with his Roc Nation line of headphones.

Although the BeatsByDre tend to overcompensate on the lower frequencies(push too much bass) they are a good headphone overall. I've been partial to the SONY MDR-V6 or MDR-7509, but, it helps to switch up sometimes.

I see Monster CEO Noel Lee is going to be at all of the appearances, that's making a big statement.

Vinyl Is Back...Sort Of...Selling More Than CDs

Anyone who has been paying attention to music sales might know vinyl is doing a steady business. It's not through the roof, but, its popularity is consistent.

CD sales are lower and it seems listeners are looking for a superior audio experience.

My suggestion... if you find a release on vinyl(that you like) over the next few years...pick it up!

Could be worth something toward the end of the next decade.

Spike Lee and Best Buy Sponsoring Filmmaking Contest

Best Buy has a contest called MOFILM U12 and it is hosted by Spike Lee.

Best Buy is asking consumers to create branded videos through MOFILM U12. They want short, creative films showcasing how technology holds great promise, is entertaining, connecting and fuels life passions.

There will be 12 winners, who will have their work on display at Cannes Advertising Festival. The top 3 will be invited to attend an all expense paid trip to Cannes, France to attend the festival. $21,000 in prize money is available with the winner taking $12,000 and an apprenticeship with Spike Lee.

Contest runs through June 8.

Best Buy To Start Selling Vinyl

Story from a year ago...

Story from this week...

Best Buy considered selling vinyl a year ago, but waited until now to pull the trigger on the deal.  CD sales aren't getting any higher, yet, vinyl record sales show a greater growth potential.

Translation...cats keep buying all of the vinyl that is released and Best Buy wants in on the action! 

The above chart shows a double digit increase in the sales of vinyl in a one year period. That may have motivated Best Buy.

What this will mean for the few record shops in Oakland, Los Angeles, Philly, New York or Jersey will remain to be seen.  It may not make much of a dent at all considering Best Buy is selling mainstream music while the record spots sell to a niche market.

One thing is clear, if this trend continues and the demand for vinyl rises, more major retailers are sure to follow.
