After three seasons at the CW, The Game was in limbo.
After its cancellation no one was sure whether it would return or become a classic show on the "re-run circuit", being picked up and shown on any network looking to fill a few slots with some black programming.
After a brief hiatus and the cast working on other projects, BET's president of original programming, Loretha Jones, contacted Salim and Mara Brock Akil(the show's executive producers) and made them an offer that might be able to put the show back on the air... if they could get the approval of CBS Paramount Television.
They managed to get it, but, it wasn't easy.
