Demetrius Williams: Working High in the New York City Sky

Demetrius Williams builds water tanks for buildings in New York City. Chances are if you've looked up on the West Side of Manhattan and noticed a water tank, you've seen his work.

I love the pride he displays. He's willing to do a dangerous job despite the obvious dangers and making a huge contribution to New York City - making high-rise living more convenient.

Do your thing Demetrius!

Some Future Chefs Are Passing on Culinary School

Cole Dickinson learned working with chefs and is soon to open Ink Restaurant. Photo: Kirk McKoyWhile some would-be-chefs prefer to take out loans to attend culinary school, some choose to start from the bottom and work their way to the top... of the kitchen.

With the costs associated with attending a top for-profit school(and the horror stories of debt and very little work placement) many restaurant cooks entered the profession by knocking on doors with resume in hand.

NFL Coaches Salaries Slashed Due to Lockout

Photo: Rick "Corvette" Contivia usatoday

NFL teams are pushing coaches around by cutting their salaries as much as 20%- 50%.

Coaches are already upset that their benefits are being reduced, job security reduced and work load increasing each year. When you throw in the fact that they are forced to learn/use new technology, then teach it to the players - with no increase it pay - you can understand their position.

Not just assistant coaches, but head coaches as well. The cost-cutting measure is being used as an incentive get the players to the reach an agreement with ownership(management wants everyone in the same boat).

Coaches are being threatened with termination if they go public with the salary cuts.

Marketing Brooklyn Industries to the World

Brooklyn Industries is taking a proactive approach to putting their name out there.

While it's too early to know if it effective, the decision to align themselves with other brands and events is an interesting way to reach the customer base they are seeking.

I dig the effort but, they're definitely going to turn the volume up on the marketing. Considering they have stores all over the country, more people should know about it.

Workers Trying to Clean Up Carwash Game in L.A.

Workers picketing the Robertson Car Wash in Los Angeles. Photo: J. Emilio Flores

After years of working for less than minimum wage, Los Angeles car wash workers are protesting and doing what they can to draw attention to what could be a very big deal in a town where having your car washed regularly is very important to one's image.

So far labor has been able to use their Clean Carwash Campaign to have two owners sent to prison for withholding wages from the workers..

Eric Gonzalez: Coney Island's Live Moving Target

Eric Gonzalez is the moving target in Coney Island's "Shoot The Freak" game.

The object of the game is to attempt to shoot him with paintballs, with Eric protecting himself with only a shield, a mask and a few barriers.
