Downtown LA Hooters Having A Hard Time Due to NBA Lockout

via laweekly

The NBA lockout has many victims, the players, the owners, the fans, even the arena employees, but one bellwether that times are getting hard is when Hooters says they are feeling the pinch(all puns intended).

With no Lakers "Showtime" in downtown L.A., there are no ball players or fans to file into Hooters for the "wings", "chicken breast" or the wine.

The Lake has dried up.

Read about the "trouble in paradise" being caused by the NBA lockout...

Video: Gap 1969 Denim Studio Downtown Los Angeles

Get and inside look at the creative loft on West Pico Boulevard in Downtown L.A.

As part of their fall campaign, the clothing manufacturer is helping explain why they opened that office down there.

Nice spin.

Kinda funny where you hear it said in the video, "we're all equal"... everyone's equal until something goes wrong.

LA Stores Hurting After Lakers Being Bounced from Playoffs

L.A. Live, outside of Staples Center-home of the Lakers. Photo: Liz.O BaylenThe saying goes, "A rising tide lifts all boats...".

If this is true, the same can be said for the opposite.

When the tide is low and the water recedes, all boats are left high and dry - such is the case for the many businesses in and around Staples Center and much of Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Lakers getting bounced from the playoffs so early has slowed business to a crawl.

It's been estimated that anywhere from $60-$70 million has been lost from the local economy(and people think an NFL lockout won't affect much nationally?)

LA: The Circus Is In Town

Elephants being walked from Union Station to Staples Center along Figueroa.

Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus walked seven of their elephants 3 miles to the Staples Center to help advertise they are in town from July 13-July 18.

They've really fixed up downtown... everything around the Staples Center that is!

Downtown L.A's Ritz-Carlton and J.W. Marriot

Downtown L.A.'s Ritz-Carlton and J.W. Marriott towers at night.

J.W. Marriott lobby.

Wolfgang Puck's WP24 - Asian eatery and lounge.

Lucky Strike Lanes - L.A. Live.

Check out an exterior and interior slide show of the Ritz-Carlton and J.W. Marriott. See some of the Figueroa Hotel too!

If you're looking to bypass Hollywood , West Hollywood or Beverly Hills and want to make your way down the 110 or 10 to AEG's L.A. Live, you'll see they are trying to provide the same level of luxury downtown that you can find in other areas of Los Angeles.

The development of downtown L.A. continues.

L.A. Continues to Develop Downtown Area

via usatoday

Downtown Los Angeles is rebuilding at a pace so fast that it may become the next "premium" destination for L.A. visitors and residents.

After coming off of the 10, 110 or the 101 Freeways and making your way onto Figueroa(and W. 11th), it becomes clear, this area has big plans to cater to the upscale set. Although, the social contrasts remain - old next to new, wealth amid poverty.

If the JW Marriott or the new Ritz Carlton hotel aren't any indication that quality, privilege and luxury are what the developers were aiming for, perhaps, the multiple high-end condominiums for sale will convince you.

Maybe it's typical gentrification, maybe it's not, but, this revitalization effort is putting downtown L.A. on people's lists of places to go... and live.

LA: Regal Cinemas Opens Doors In Downtown LA - Officially Opens Nov. 6th

via curbed

As part of the LA Live campus downtown, the Regal Theater is the newest addition.

It's located on Olympic Blvd. next to the soon to be opened, Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The 14 screen, 3 story theater, with its entire Olympic Blvd. side made of glass windows(great views), is looking to be a place for films to be premiered.

It's design and layout are done in such a way to accommodate the opening of a major film - "2012" will open there next week.

Downtown LA has cleaned up pretty well in the last few years...at least everything that AEG owns. Would be nice if all that development could spread out a little more.

LA Street Fashion: Santee Alley - Downtown

via latimes

A sampling of some of the looks in the Santee Alley section of downtown Los Angeles.

If you don't know, Santee Alley is the Los Angeles equivalent to New York's Canal Street(click link to see what I mean).

The area stretches for 3 blocks and is 20 feet wide, but it's packed with more than 150 merchants selling everything from clothes, sunglasses, handbags, earrings, jackets, jeans, watches and yes...DVD's.

In some ways it's where all of Los Angeles meets - Beverly Hills, (South)Central LA, Pasadena and Hollywood are a few of the places people come from to partake in the shopping experience.

Flight Club - NY and LA Consignment Sneaker Store

Besides being the store featured on "Run's House" when Diggy went into "the city" to look at sneakers for his blog, Flight Club is one of the premier sneaker stores for unique and rare sneakers in New York(they also have an L.A. location).

In New York they have three locations:
  1. 254 Greene Street - between 8th and Waverly - The Village
  2. 120 Nassau Street - between Beekman and Ann - near City Hall
  3. 267 Lafayette Street - between Prince and Spring - Soho, east of B'way/south of Houston
The Los Angeles store is @ 503 Fairfax, between Beverly and Melrose(across from Rosewood Park/up the street from CBS Studios and The Farmer's Market/The Grove)

If your in downtown L.A., near the Staples Center, check out Holy Grail on W. Pico. If your in the hills, jump on the 110 freeway and head south. Once you're on S. Figueroa you're practically there.
