Drake on Which Rap Styles Are Dominant

Although I don't agree with how he arrived at his conclusion, Drake's answer is right. Rappers with melodic flows and slower deliveries are enjoying success. Why... that's another story.

His work is wrong in solving this problem because it only takes a little observation to reveal that each year major record labels have involved themselves with rap music, the music has been progressively simplified for mainstream consumption.

The melodic rap avoids all of the labels the music had in the 80s and 90s - it's some of the most non-threatening music and doesn't offend it's audience or require them to look at themselves and be accountable for their own views or behavior.

By rappers holding back on the skills and using so much slang, it makes it easier for the outsider to be "in on the joke", so to speak.

I'm not against rappers who CAN sing, I always dug Slick Rick, Grand Puba & Biz Markie when they sang. I just think it blurs the lines when a rapper becomes a singer, but says he's rapper. Like singers who think they can rap, it's never as good as getting the real thing.

Sales over culture = rappers singing and singers rapping.
