A tsunami watch is has been issued for the Indian Ocean.

Earthquake Hits Washington, D.C., Carolinas - Felt in NYC & NJ

This afternoon the effects of a 5.9 earthquake, that originated in Virginia, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts were felt.

In New York City buildings shook and had to be evacuated.

8.9-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan; at least 60 killed; Tsunamis Feared

A 8.9-magnitude quake hit Japan at 2:59 PM local time, disrupting meetings and alarming residents. Although the island had experienced the same thing earlier this week, this one was different - residents kept experiencing aftershocks hours after the initial quake.

It was at this point that even the most seasoned Japanese residents realized something was very wrong.

The quake was so powerful it triggered massive tsunamis - estimated at 15 feet.

At this time there are questions about tsunamis reaching the California coast and Hawaii.

7.2 Earthquake Hits Baja California, Mexico; felt in Los Angeles

Buildings from San Diego to Los Angeles felt a 7.2 magnitude earthquake at 3:40pm (PT).

No one in Southern California was hurt and damage was minimal, although high-rise building s in San Diego were said to be swaying back and forth during the quake.

One person is said to be dead in Mexicali.

Hope For Haiti Now - Simulcast on All Major Networks @ 8PM

Madonna, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Bono, Brad Pitt, Chris Rock, Morgan Freeman, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Samuel L. Jackson Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Wyclef Jean and Anderson Cooper are some of the people scheduled to appear or perform on "Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" at 8pm EST.

The telethon will feature some of the biggest names in the world to raise money for the Haitian relief effort since the earthquakes in Haiti.

All music performances and video of the broadcast are available for purchase at iTunes in advance and can be downloaded afterwards.

Walmart Donates $600,000 to Aid in Haitian Earthquake Relief

Wednesday January 12th, the Walmart Foundation donated $500,000 in cash and $100,000 in medical kits to aid in the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

Haiti Suffers 7.3 Earthquake, Wyclef Speaks With CNN

The country of Haiti suffered a 7.0 - 7.3 earthquake yesterday (Jan. 12th) and the extent of the damage is beginning to trickle off of the island. Many lives were lost and much of the heavily populated capital, Port-au-Prince, was hit hard.
As more information is made available, this post will be updated.

UPDATE 1/13/10: At this time authorities are waiting until daylight to survey the damage. Efforts are being organized to send help to assist those on the ground by organizations like Care.

The White House has issued a statement from Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton that the United States will send help soon.
