Friday, March 11, 2011 A 8.9-magnitude quake hit Japan at 2:59 PM local time, disrupting meetings and alarming residents. Although the island had experienced the same thing earlier this week, this one was different - residents kept experiencing aftershocks hours after the initial quake.

The quake was so powerful it triggered massive tsunamis - estimated at 15 feet.
At this time there are questions about tsunamis reaching the California coast and Hawaii.
