George Lucas Explains Why Hollywood Didn't Want to Fund 'Red Tails' on 'The Daily Show' with Jon Stewart

Filmmaker George Lucas told 'The Daily show' host Jon Stewart that Hollywood didn't want to fund his 'Red Tails' because the film has an all black cast.

They said, "there's no foreign market for this film"(which is 60% of Hollywood business).

Hollywood won't greenlight any black film that doesn't contain buffoonish characters and(or) they can add the save-a- day character.

They've made millions(if not billions) off of black films, but they continue to use the same excuse.

In 2011, Los Angeles lost television shoots because of more competition from New York, but feature film production slowly increased.

Film production increased due to their state's tax credit program, according to FilmL.A., Inc.

Filmmakers can receive tax credit up to 25% of production in certain areas.

Some of the feature films approved for the program last year included "Gangster Squad", "Argo", and "This is 40".

Commercials shot on location increased from the year before, setting a new annual record for the region.

Paramount's New Animation Division May Signal End of DreamWorks Deal

A scene from the Paraount film, "Rango".

Now that Paramount is making animated films there may no longer be a need to keep its deal with DreamWorks.

The two parties have had a strained relationship for some time over fees payed to Paramount, so it comes as no surprise to some(including me) that the unveiling of Paramount's animation division coincides with the expiration of their agreement with DreamWorks.

Don't be surprised if one of these companies is absorbed into the other. It's a long shot, but I've seen weirder things happen.

'Dark Knight Rises' has Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures Disagreeing on Future

Despite having success as partners with films like "The Hangover" and "300", Warner Bros. and Legendary are having a difficult time working out the specifics of their new co-financing and production agreement - which ends in 2013.

The two companies have always had a 50/50 partnership, but Warner Bros. new movie chief, Jeff Robinov, is looking for a bigger piece of the pie, despite Legendary becoming a bigger player in Hollywood(they're now developing television shows and digital media).

Both parties have agreed to continue negotiating while they work on "Dark Knight Rises".

It was expected, by most, for a deal to have been worked out by the time production began.
