Gary, Indiana is known for quite a few memorable things - blight, being the home of the Jackson 5, the 1972 National Black Political Convention and the newest... rapper Freddie Gibbs.

For some of you, this may be your first time hearing Freddie Gibbs, but, I assure you, it won't be your last.

Listening to Freddie I'm reminded of 3 people - Bun B, Daz and Snoop Dogg... in a good way. At different times I hear some of their styles in his delivery. He can speed rap, talk gangsta ish and tell certain members of the fairer sex that he has no love for them. I can't say that I share his sentiment, but, Freddie makes it sound so good, it's easy to listen... for me at least.

His attention to detail in his rhymes, vocabulary and varying cadence keep the flow hot. Freddie is a rapper that you will hear other rappers wanting to heat up their records.

I've been following him for a minute and was surprised to recently see him on the cover of LA Weekly. The story was written by Jeff Weiss, the same reporter who wrote the Jerkin' cover story for LA Weekly during the Summer.

Look for Freddie to become one of the few rappers to break away from the pack as we move into this new decade.

Word.
