LodgeNet, the largest provider of hotel television entertainment has launched an app that will turn any iPhone, iPad or Android phone into a hotel remote control.
The app allows the user to turn the television on from inside or outside of the room or select programming.
LodgeNet says approximately 2000 hotels will be able to use the app.
Although this app creates remote control functionality, it opens the door to adding other functions in the future - check-in/check-out, placing food orders, contacting the valet. Adding convenience features for guests could speed up the process of arriving or leaving.
Yes, you can do many of these things from a hotel television remote but... you have to be in the room.

Hotels are remodeling or building hotel bathrooms without bathtubs.
They say guests don't have the time to soak and simply prefer showers to baths.
Holiday Inn has gone from 95% of their newly built hotels having tubs to 55% having them now.
As I'm typing, I wonder, how much could saved in building expenses (tubs & plumbing)if someone elected to not use tubs in a new structure?
I also wonder how much money a company could save in annual water usage if guests took fewer baths and more showers - they'd save on water heating costs as well, but, I digress.
We'll have to take their word for it.
