I dig this cat for a lot of reasons, the first being...he can rap his ass off. Dude was down with J Dilla, which carries weight.

This is an industry in which cats claim to be down with this camp or that rapper, but, don't spit at a pro level...Finale does.

Before he rhymed he worked as an automotive engineer... this speaks to his talent. Let's be honest...a lot people would be lucky if they could even become automotive engineers... I can definitely think of a few commercial cats who need to leave rap alone and apply for Finale's old gig.

It should still be available. From the sound of his latest album, "A Pipedream and A Promise" he damn sure won't be needing his old job. - Martin Cameron Smith

J Dilla's Mom Reminisces Over Jay Dee

Great article.  Although it skips around a bit, it really humanizes the myth that is Dilla and offers insight to the degree of work he put into his craft.  While highlighting his bout with Lupus, it is done in such a way to present him as victor and champion.  Maureen Yancy is really a compassionate mother and that comes through.  

I wish these interviewers, when talking to her, would ask about her other son, Illa J.
