More promo on that Last Train To Paris project. (There is a delay in the beginning - allow video to load.)
A lot of cats don't know Prince Markie D and Puff go back to the early Uptown days. Mark Morales and Corey Rooney produced many of those hits on Uptown/MCA, where Puff started his career.
In the video, Mark's being modest when he says he's worked with Puff, "a few times". He's being modest. A lot of the records Mark and Corey produced helped build Uptown.
Sean Combs will release future music recordings under the Interscope umbrella.
The imprint is officially Bad Boy/Interscope Geffen A&M. It was announced this afternoon - September 29th.
The first release will be the much hyped and long delayed Last Train To Paris.
I told you this joint was not coming out through the Warner system. When he pushed that Dirty Money and said he was taking his time, then announced a 2010 release, it was a wrap. That album was coming out once his deal was finished...elsewhere.
All artists signed to Bad Boy under the Warner Music Group agreement will continue to record under those contracts with Warner Music Group. This was to be expected.
There was no way Atlantic was going to let him take those artists with him. What is unique here is he gives the impression that he will continue to be involved with the careers of those artists. We shall see.
I don't see Atlantic competing against itself in this way. I hear all of that "boutique label talk", but, competition is competition. Look for these artists to be less involved with Bad Boy as the Interscope product begins to be serviced to outlets.
It's a great move on Puff's part. He left Atlantic with some good catalog to exploit. Although B5, Gorilla Zoe, Cherri Dennis, Yung Joc, Danity Kane and Day 26 didn't release classic albums, those artists made a lot of good singles. Many of those singles mark the times they were made in. Look for advertisers and publishers to make use of this.
Now it's time for the second decade of the 2000s to unfold in Sean Combs' career.
If you watched last night's episode of Making His Band, you might not know what had the keyboard player with the "faux hawk" (Mike) hating on the drummer...this is what started it.
It's kind of slick how he got my man kicked out of the house...then took his spot as a drummer.
Obviously he was in over his head and wanted to switch to an instrument he could play, but, needed to get Kristopher out of his way first.
Although Kristopher should have practiced more, the same holds true for Mike...he didn't get on the stage and do anyone any favors...including himself.
This is that joint you see Puff working on in the show "Making His Band".
It would have been ill to have Raekwon drop a few verses on this joint. Right now, you don't have too many other cats who could make this track officially street like Rae.
This is more realistic than any of the previous "Making The Band" shows.
Look at these clips and see for yourself.
Puff allowing himself to be seen in the process of creating his success is what makes this show good television. In the past he walked in, told some dude he was cancelled and walked out. This time he IS a part of the show.
Catch this show...it's looking much better than any of the previous seasons.
The talent is better and the personalities of those selecting the talent add to the entertainment value of the show.
As per usual, you can count on humor, drama and the heartbreak of being cut - let's hope the fights are kept to a minimum(that ish isn't music related).
I caught that shot of Puff going over to The Hollywood Roosevelt to visit Andre Harrell - shouts to my man Romano over @ the Roosevelt-(what up Dave).
I like the move to L.A. it gives the show a different and needed visual backdrop.
Puff showed out in Central Park. As he was leaving that Q-Tip Central Park concert, I told you about last week, he decided to stage an impromptu performance/listening party...early 90's style.
You see he brought the girls with him...right? Nobody does it like Diddy...nobody!
This time he is assembling an actual band to help him put that "Last Train To Paris" album together.
You know the drill...he will search a variety of places, looking for the best singers and musicians to help him create this album.
As they search the country for talent, the viewer will be allowed to see Puff preparing for this album - selecting songs, conducting meetings, practicing choreography.
