How Hollywood Stages Mega Car Crashes

A behind-the-scenes look at what goes into staging and executing a car crash in a Hollywood movie.

Check out the classic New York City car chase scene from the 1973 film, The Seven-Ups with Roy Scheider:

This scene takes them all over the city, uptown, across the GWB and up the Palisades Parkway(although it looks like the Sawmill in Westchester).

NYC to Begin Charging $300 for Film Permits

via jaobserver

After years of allowing permits to be gotten free of charge, the City of New York has decided it is time to change the practice and charge $300.

This comes as a surprise to many who have been used to there being no fee for a permit since 1966 - this was done to provide an incentive for people to shoot in and around New York City.

Parking, street closures and police officers will be provided free of charge as they always have(Los Angeles charges for these).

Mayor Bloomberg feels it is necessary to charge a fee because the city has had to sustain budget cuts.

Sony's Spider-Man 4 In Trouble -No 2010 Summer Release

via deadlinehollywood

Besides a bad script, the need for a new director and execs at SONY wanting a new cast, everything looks good for the new Spider Man 4 movie.

Find out why a huge franchise that has owned the May-June window is suffering from story issues, disagreements over how much to pay the lead and has yet to have an official start day to begin production.

The special-effects guys were even told to look for other employment.

The film will be released in 2011, most likely a Memorial Day or Fourth of July release.

Stargate Studios shows you their green screen technique that renders a flat surface into an entirely different setting.

Watch how actors are transported from a sound stage to a neighborhood or how a dead end street on a back lot becomes a never ending avenue in New York City.

This is some impressive ish!

The Cost to Film in New York City Just Went Up

The cast of Ugly Betty filming a scene in New York.

via nytimes

Just before Christmas the city of New York decided to raise the fee to film inside some city owned buildings to $3200.

While it makes sense to the New York City, movie and television production companies are outraged. Some are considering filming elsewhere because of the added expense.

Because there is no sliding scale, commercials, videos, tv pilots and film students have to pay the same price with no regard for the size of the production.

The Motion Picture Association of America thinks this is just the beginning and other city agencies could start charging more as well.
