Retailers Plan to Open Many Pop-Up Stores This Holiday Season

Harry and David will open a number of pop-up stores this holiday season.

via usatoday & guardianuk

Although the pop-up store came onto the scene a little over a year ago, there are signs that retailers love the temporary stores when it comes to moving merchandise, increasing profits and raising brand awareness.

During the next few months you can expect to see many popular retailers opening the locations in formerly vacant store fronts around the country. The idea takes the holiday kiosks we've seen in the past to a higher level.

Look for Border's, Toys R' Us, Harry & David, Target and a few restaurants to get in on the act.

Pop-Up Restaurants Populating NYC

Until recently the term, "pop-up", conjured up images of retail stores selling men's and women's apparel. That's all about to change if this new trend catches on - pop-up restaurants.

It's not a completely original idea, when you consider there are chefs who throw private dinners at undisclosed locations almost any night of the week. What is original about these restaurants is the locations are disclosed and open to the public.

For a limited period of time, some restaurants are allowing some of your other favorite eateries to serve their food at their location. You may find a Manhattan restaurant allowing a Brooklyn restaurant to set up for a few days and serve from that location.

If you're going to be in the Williamsburg section(Brooklyn) or at the Whitney Museum of Art(Manhattan), you could be in luck.

The Reason Pop-Up Stores Are Hot

Pop-up stores were a trend we at Digital Soul Experience, saw coming even before other retailers saw them as a marketing tool. Some retailers even found out about the practice here! (You'd be surprised at who comes to this blog... really!)

Find out more about why you may continue to see more pop-up stores, despite them making very little money.

Pop-Up Stores A Permanent, Temporary Stategy?

Stores opening for one week to a month has become a new way to approach retail in New York City and help build a brand.

While the stores are temporary, the idea of using them may not be.

NYMag did a story on this topic today.

Being that I've done a bunch of posts on pop-up shops over the last few weeks, I knew it was only a matter of time that it would stand out to the mainstream press.

GAP Opens London Pop-Up Store In Kingley Court

via denimologyuk

To celebrate its 40th Anniversary Gap has opened up a pop-up store in London. The store has three floors and is located in Kingley Court, off London's Regent Street.

The pop-up opened on the 12th.

It will be open for 19 days and 69 hours(part of the 1969 theme Gap is using; it's the year they were founded), during which time, it will make limited edition jeans available.

How limited you ask? There will only be 69 pairs of each style, individually stamped and numbered.

The jeans will sell for £19.69, with half the profits from all jeans going towards the Global Fund to eliminate AIDS in Africa.

Custom pieces were created by designers Pierre Hardy and Albertus Swanepoel for the store.

Pharrell, in association with Patrick Robinson and Gap Japan has created a capsule wardrobe from his patented "bionic yarn" made from recycled plastic bottles.
