Society Hill, Newark N.J. Photo: ResurgenceCity.org

via usatoday

As developers notice demographic shifts and changing demands of new homeowners, they are rethinking the idea of building subdivisions in suburban communities - enter the urban market.

Simply put, there is a demand for the amenities cities offer. Homeowners like the idea of living in close proximity to the places they frequent - schools, stores and restaurants within walkable distances are high on their list of demands. Less time commuting is up there too!

No, this isn't a new idea, but it's picking up steam. Let's see how this impacts urban real estate values.

Word to Newark.

Developers Competing for Brooklyn Bridge Park Hotel

An artist's rendering of developer RAL's proposed hotel designed by CDA (note the Brooklyn Bridge in background).via curbed

Brooklyn has undergone a great deal of gentrification since Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" was filmed in the Bed-Stuy section of the borough or Matty Rich's "Straight Out Of Brooklyn" was shot in the Red Hook section.

The landscape has changed in many ways and it's getting ready to change a little more.

Developers have submitted proposals to design and build a hotel and condominiums at Brooklyn Bridge Park(in teh Brooklyn Heights section). This is part of the boroughs plan to make the park financially self-sustaining.

9/11 Memorial Worksite Photos

Curbed was down at the World Trade Center site checking on the progress of the "9/11 Memorial" and captured a lot of good photos.

The 10 year anniversary of September 11, 2011 is a few weeks away and workers are nearing completion as quickly as they can, despite a few labor issues with the concrete workers.

Workers had walked away from construction sites all over the city(Madison Square Garden & World Trade Center were two.) Recently they were ordered back to work because of no-strike clauses in their agreements. This should keep construction on schedule.

View some of the work that has taken place...
