Raphael Nadal and Serena Willilams
With the U.S. Open starting next Monday, (August 31st) Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Raphael Nadal were in mid-town Manhattan on Broadway between 22nd and 23rd Streets to show off their Nike outfits.
The street was blocked off and a tennis court erected on the street!
They took lots of photos and hit a few balls around with kids from four different inner-city programs; New York Junior Tennis League, Athletes for Charity, Mentoring USA andNew York Parks Foundation(the one's who sponsored the CityParks Concert Series this summer).
Each program received a $10,000 donation from Nike and the kids got free Nike gear
Federer's was said to be the most surprising to John McEnroe who said, "You'd have to be a real macho man to wear those colors."
Maybe if McEnroe were a little hipper he would have known color is in this year, but, McEnroe is always saying something.
Be sure to catch the US Open next week. I'll be following the matches, eliminations and giving links for scores/additional coverage, just as I did with Wimbledon.
