Malice of The Clipse: From "Coke Rap" to Christianity

Malice of The Clipse.

via villagevoice

After years as one-half of the popular, Virginia-based rap duo, The Clipse, something moved him to feel less inspired about spitting his tales of drug transactions and living life on the illegal edge.

It may have been the arrest and incarceration of his friend and manager Anthony Gonzalez or the mishandling of their "Till The Casket Drops" album, with its poorly selected single and questionable promotion.

Whatever it was it lead him to consider parting with some negatives in his life and replacing them with positives.

Click the link below to find out why one of the positives was religion and one of the negatives... the Porsche.

I gotta say, I always wondered how long they could keep spittin' those rhymes before something made them think twice.

Not because the subject matter was so bad, but because they did it so damn well!

Anytime you can say something so convincingly and with such innovative rhyme patterns, you know people are going to listen.

That's a lot of influence.

The Clipse - Sound of The City: VIllage Voice Interview

Check out what Malice and Pusha T had to say about Hell Hath No Fury, Till the Casket Drops and Kinda Like A Big Deal.

Zach Baron did a really good job of keeping the interview loose and not getting generic with the questions.

It's kinda funny when he asks Pusha about a Village Voice mixtape review that suggested they needed "girl record" on the Road Till The Casket Drops mixtape. Pusha goes into this monologue(rightfully so) about how The Clipse raised the bar for mixtapes and created the need to review mixtapes like albums... I wish they had that ish on video!

It's facts like the one above mentioned by Pusha that make The Clipse one of those groups you just have to listen to, no matter how many times you think you know what they are going to say...these guys are groundbreaking.

Even if you knock them for doing "Coke rap"..."Coke rap" never sounded so good.
