Washington, D.C. is preparing for the funeral of the legendary Chuck Brown on Thursday. The city is expecting thousands at the Washington Convention Center for the event. Service will be hosted by Wayne Bruce and The Chuck Brown Band will perform.
Chuck Brown(Charles Louis Brown) was an eminent figure of the Washington, D.C. "go-go" music scene. His musicianship, his accomplishments and his willingness to be Washington D.C.'s ambassador of "Go-Go" made him as recognizable as he was respected.
His ability to blend Jazz, Funk and various percussive elements into one music are impressive and his talent as bandleader can be seen in videos like the one above. His bands were well rehearsed, arrangements uncluttered and performances masterful.
I've often said: "If you can't move your ass to a Chuck Brown song, that thing ain't good for nothing but sittin' on." I meant it then and I mean it now... more than ever.
America Eats Tavern is a pop restaurant in Washington, D.C., where you get a history lesson on each dish on the menu. The lesson begins the moment your seated. Some of the delicious gourmet dishes date back to the 1800's. You'll be surprised at who created the classic dishes served at the restaurant.
During President Barack Obama's performance at the W.H. Correspondents Dinner he joked about singing Young Jezzy instead of Al Green during his second term.
His quip about First Lady Michelle Obama and her reaction, make it even funnier!

The Beat Tape Project and Producers I Know collaborated to create a project that shows Hip-Hop production is multifaceted and has evolved. This project focuses on the smooth, syncopated, groovie driven aspect of the music - the more musical dimension.
Good move fellas.
I've communicated with both of these brothers on Twitter and have to tell you, if any two people are making strides to advance Hip-Hop culture and the role of the producer it is @producersIKnow and @digitalhustler.
Shouts to Hec Dolo(@Hekdolo), I see he's on the project.
Behind The Beats host Gadget(@digitalhustler) is in the process of creating a Ghostface Beat Tape - the project compiles beats from a variety of the best producers, that would be a good fit for the Wu Tang emcee.
The latest episode highlights the work of DMV artist/producer Kaimbr(I hear him a lot on Late Nights with Rosenberg/Hot 97 NYC) as he previews beats he may submit.
This Behind The Beat series that Gadget and Digital Hustle Films/DigitalFresh.TV are doing is important because it elevates the level of the Hip Hop producer at a time when the image is taking a hit. Prodcuers are becoming devalued. Normally you will see poorly produced videos, with bad sound quality and lots of generic boasts.
Behind The Beats sidesteps the bullshit, presenting and revealing the producer as a person and a thinker. Because the host(Gadget) is himself a producer, his knowledge of the craft and equipment keep the conversation relevant. It establishes that a specific skill set is necessary to actually become a talented producer. That producers have to apply a great deal of judgement when making decisions during the music making process is something that is rarely seen. Showing this heightens the level of the discussion, adding a more intellectual nuance to craft and the producer.
As Hip Hop becomes more mature, we can no longer present and document the creators and supporters in a one dimensional fashion. People's personalities shape their work and influence the choices they make - Behind The Beats breaks down the wall and shares the other side of the producer with us... the personal side.
President Obama, the First Lady Michelle and Michelle's mother Marian Robinson invited children of military families, the Boys and Girls Club and local elementary school students to the White House on Saturday for a special Halloween Party.
The Obamas handed out treats on the White House steps as the parents took plenty of photos.
